Neon Palm Tree

With exception to some astrophotography I've done (maybe), this was one of the toughest photos I have taken. Every setting on the camera had to be right (and I certainly mucked about with all of them!) and I only had 7 minutes during the display to get this. Although not my favourite personally, certainly my best one technically. Even the cathedral looks in ok focus!

For those photo geeks: EOS450D, standard EF-S 18-55mm lens, 30secs exposure, f/16, ISO100 with "long exposure noise reduction" custom setting enabled.

I did take a "bulb" exposure where I used the lens cap as the shutter, holding it over the lens and taking it off. Produced rather a mental image!

Petch's Corner

All of my life I have wondered the point of this piece of wall near Zak's Restaurant was. What is "Petch's Corner"? What was it and what did it mean? Any ideas?

Such a cheater

Sometimes I find it really hard to understand why I take a photo of somebody elses artwork. Seems so unusual and copied, but I cannot seem to help it. Especially since when it goes against the nature of graffiti...

Long for a swan

Travelling down the river one day, I tried to find a swan to take a photo of. Without my glasses on, I thought this was one ;)

Bee

Now, I have to admit, this almost looks fake. It was almost impossible to take this photo with a zoom lens (which I did), and all the other settings were just right. What also took me by suprise was that I only took 2 photos of the creature! I must be getting better!

Need something more substantial, like sausages!

There will be a future when this view will never be seen again. No some much the graffiti, but the building itself (due to be demolished). For a few years I have trawled in this dodgy part of Norwich trying to find the pieces I like (mainly before they are ruined by tagging). I like it cos it looks almost like a mirror, almost.

Skeletons

Back to Covehithe on this one. Usually beaches are alive plaves, but with the coastal erosion that is being experience at this point of the Suffolk coast, it givens the impression of desolation. Hence the black and white photo. With so many trees fall away into the sea to be swept away forever, is this not a comparative to what the human race might face in the future?

Winter at Plantation Garden

This area is potentially my favourite place to photograph. There is so much going on in such a small area (much like my head!) and I am trying to get each of the seasons in all their glory in this special place.

Graffiti Fish

One of my first images, took a while to get this shot (about 20 or so) of an out of focus vehicle passing in front of it. Did get some odd looks from passers by as I was hiding behind a lamp post to get the shot (was there any need for this? I don't know!)

Ronald

Went to the Banksy exhibition in Bristol a few years back. Queued for all of four hours to get in! This is one of the many, many photos I took, Ronald sitting above the doorway to the museum. Chatted to a lady who worked in the gift shop, she said that Banksy himself visited the exhibition (also queuing for four hours I hope!) as he put some of his "Diana £10 notes" into the collection box. Cool!

Io

No, not named after the Jovian moon, but the butterfly Inachis io (or European peacock). On this bush, there were absolutely swarms of them. Colours are amazing! Plus it took me a while to get all the parameters right (had to use a zoom lens in the end) and also wait until a few landed on the same flower!

A natural tribute to Seahenge

I remember going to see Seahenge in Holme before it was whisked away to a sterile museum. This inverted tree trunk reminded me of the centre piece (before some chap hacked a wedge out with a chainsaw!). There are several of these dotted down the beach north of Southwold.

One in a million

One of the most beautiful, natural sights I have ever seen. The ancient woodland in Wayland on a few weeks of the year is absolutely covered with bluebells. In this picture, a lone, white flower stands amongst the blue. One in a million.

Oh Aero!

There's a place in Norwich where pieces of artwork appear and disappear regularly. To me, they look fantastic, but to take a photo of them (what we term them as graffiti) almost defeats the purpose of them. They are supposed to be non-permanent and to immortalise them on the net almost seems like forgery!! This is the first in the sequence.

One

I love this pic. It was taken at a 19th century renovated gothic garden in Norwich, called Plantation Garden. I myself even helped a little in it's reconstruction.  It is quiet and provides me a solace from the hectic modern life. It certainly is a hidden gem of Norwich, very quiet. The many times I have been down there I think I have seen only 1 or 2 other people. Hence the picture along the back steps, only one.

Potestas saxeum

Potestas saxeum, Latin for "power made from stone". I think this was my first pic that I was "officially" happy with. It was originally called "Sentinels" but the power made from stone idea come from the silhouettes of the main buildings that has held power of Norwich in the past and in the present: the Castle, St. Peter Mancroft, City Hall, Catherdral and Roman Catholic Catherdral.

Oh yeah, it was rather a nice sunset too!

Launch!

Took me a while to get this pic. I remember thinking of it as a toss up between details on the body or the wings. Either way I was (eventually) happy with the final result. I think he (she) had just emerged from the pond as was drying off on the clothes peg (how apt!) ready to fly away and do dragonfly things.

Oh what it would be to have a macro lens for this type of thing *dreams*

Who is Shook?

I have been working on this composite for sometime now. Really came about by accident walking in a subway eating a Subway and seeing his tag. Then they sprung up everywhere!!! I took photos of some I saw, not all. I'm sure this image will evolve in the future as more are discovered. My favourite two are the one on the side of the overpass with the bus going by and the "National Lottery" one.

This image is one of the only edited images I have taken. I discovered this old bag in an old house and decided to call the photography books I produce "Andy's Records". I'm sure there's no copyright infringement as, well, they don't exist anymore! Although I hope Maxell don't find out.

Evolution

To me, this image shows evolution. From the images around my hand, a variety of other images can be seen. I see an elk horn near my index finger knuckle. In the bottom right corner seem to be pairs of legs, although this image was taken of my arm! Strange. I also see alien fingers and Mr. Fantastic's arm! Comment on what you see...
